- KEARNEY — Minna (Thomsen) Newbold, 94, of Minden died Friday, June 22, 2018, at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
A celebration gathering will be 3-6 p.m. Sept. 21 at Bethany Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Minden.
Craig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Minna was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Hurup, Denmark, to Nels Sondergaard and Hilda (Kjaergaard) Thomsen.
She graduated from Minden High School and attended college and worked in California until marrying her high school sweetheart, Duane Newbold, on April 10, 1948. They had five children - Ward, Grant, Gina, Gail and Dee Ann.
They farmed the original Newbold homestead, milked dairy cattle and raised cattle and hogs. Minna also worked at Eaton Corp. in Kearney for 20 years.
She was very proud that she became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
She enjoyed attending auctions, traveling, cooking, baking, collecting china, crafting and circle. She helped with elections in Kearney County into her 80s, was active in Danish Brotherhood, Danish Dancers and as treasurer of the Kearney County Museum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; son, Ward; brother, Wisthi; sister, Anny; and son-in-law, David Deyle.
Survivors include her children, Grant Newbold and wife Jennifer Rumery of Minden, Gina Newbold-Crosby and husband Jim Crosby of Kearney, Gail Deyle of Phoenix and Dee Newbold-Powell and husband Den BinLin Newbold-Powell of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Deyle, Casey Deyle, Toby Deyle, Elliot Newbold, Clark Newbold, Jackie Hauff and Jamie Crosby; and great-grandchild, Callen Hauff.
