- Elmer Westergard - - 1911 - 2000
Elmer Westergard, 88, 1544 South Main St., Minot, ND, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, in a Minot medical center.
He was born August 21, 1911,on the family farmstead in rural Balfour, ND the son of Mathias and Marie (Rumbolz) Westergard. He was reared and educated in rural Balfour, ND.
He entered the United States Army Air Corps on December 21, 1942, serving during World War II as a Tail Gunner in the Pacific Theater. Elmer was honorably discharged on December 28, 1945. After his discharge he returned to Minot and was employed with I. Keating Furniture as a carpet installer for a short period of time.
In 1952, Elmer went to work for Robertson Lumber Company, Minot. On August 14, 1965, he married Ardella (Kriedeman) at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot. He retired from Robertson's Lumber in 1977. Ardella passed away on April 19, 1988. Elmer continued to live in Minot up until his death.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Eagles Aerie, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he held a life membership in the Moose from which he just received his 50 year membership.
Survivors: sister, Doris Smith, Orange City, FL; sister-in-laws, Laverne Adam, and Agnes Westergard, both of Minot, numerous nieces and nephew also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardella, parents and brother, Vernon.
Funeral Service: Saturday, July 15, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, July 14, 2000, from Noon until 8:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
