- Melvin W. Holm, 84, of Ottawa died on Friday, April 22, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa with the Rev. David Raben, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mueller Funeral Home and Monday at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Mr. Holm was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Lu Verne, Iowa, to Willars and Sarah (Quinn) Holm. He married Kathleen Fosse on May 3, 1946, in Sycamore. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II in the Mediterranean on an LST and in the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach. He was employed as a millwright at Libbey-Owens-Ford in Naplate until his retirement.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 33, Ottawa Bowlers Hall of Fame and the National Bowlers Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; three daughters, Susan (Emmett) Bowles of Louisville, Ky., Mary (Sam) Kennedy-Thompson of Ottawa and Martha (Charles) Black of Seneca; two sons, Alan (Shirley) Holm of Lancaster, Pa. and Peter L. (Helen) Holm of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Anita Holm, Nathan Holm, Ben Holm, Matthew Holm, Joshua Holm, Beau Beguin, Sara Beguin, Connor Kennedy and Katie Kennedy; one great-grandson, George Alerton Holm; and one sister, Anna Marie (Kenneth) Mann of Streator.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald W. Holm and Harold "Butch" Holm.
