- Wisthi A. Thomsen, died on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Kearney County Health Services-Hospital. Wisthi was born on June 28, 1928 in Hurdom, Denmark to Sondergaard and Hilda (Kaargard] Thomsen.
When Wisthi was nine months old his parents and two sisters came to America and settled near Minden, Nebraska. He attended country school and then graduated from Minden (NE.) High School in 1946. He helped his father on the farm for a number of years. On September 10, 1950 he married G. Charmaine Holsten of Norman, Nebraska at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Minden, Nebraska. They were blessed with five boys, Dwight, Eric, Brian, Kirk and Kent. In 1951 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was discharged in 1953. After Wisthi returned from the service he farmed and worked at Rockwell and then Royal Plastics, Minden, Nebraska. In September of 1966 he started working for the U.S. Postal Service, Minden, Nebraska as a clerk. He retired in 1992 after 26 years of service. Wisthi was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Minden, Nebraska, Minden American Legion Post #94, VFW Post 759, Masonic Lodge #127, Elks Lodge #984 and the Hastings Eagles Club. His greatest enjoyment was dancing and traveling with his wife. Wisthi and Charmaine traveled to Denmark and went on three cruises.
Survivors are: wife, G. Charmaine Thomsen of Minden, Nebraska; sons, Dwight Thomsen and wife, Olene of Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Eric Thomsen and wife, Mary of Beatrice, Nebraska, Brian Thomsen of Minden, Nebraska, Kirk Thomsen and wife, Marian of Hudson, Ohio and Kent Thomsen and wife, Alice of Axtell, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; two great grandsons; sisters, Anny Fredrickson of Lakewood, Colorado and Minna Newbold of Minden, Nebraska.
Burial was in Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska with Military Rites provided by the Minden (NE.) American Legion and the Heartwell (NE.) VFW.
