| Hans Christian Nielsen and Ingeborg Cathrine (nee Pedersen) Kongenshus Mindepark memorial stone for Lø Herred, Tønder Amt
Hans Christian and Ingeborge were honoured with an inscription of their name at the memorial stone for Lø Herred, Sønderjyllands Amt. This because of their work to cultivate hedge land in Ballum during the years 1884-1905. At that time no machines could help cultivate the hedge. So Hans Christian more or less cultivated it by hand using a spade! In total 12.5 acres were cultivated during these years. Not bad for a very poor couple to get their names on this stone. Only a few names in each part of Denmark got their names honoured in this way. |

| Siblings Johanne Marie, Christian Petersen, Niels Jensen, Hans Christian and Mette Line Nielsen Census /Folketælling 1845
They all live in the poorhouse in Husum-Ballum. They are called "fattiglemmer" in Danish which could be translated as pauper.
Very poor circumstances. Interesting here is that their family name isn´t written as Nielsen but Jensen. How come? This because of the use of patronymic which means that a new born in Denmark would get a family name by using the fathers given name plus the ending -sen which means son. A daughter would be given the ending -datter which means daughter. So these 5 siblings were named after their father Jens+sen= Jensen. The girls should have got the family name Jensdatter if it should have been correct. But in the church books they all got the family name Nielsen... |

This is one out of 12 records from Kongenshus Mindepark were the stone is placed. Not bad for a very poor couple to get their names on this stone. Only a few names in each part of Denmark got their names honoured in this way. |
