    Funeral Services Held Sunday for Fred Klaessy

    Fred Klaessy, 45, died at a Rochester, Minn, hospital on Wednesday evening of last week following a long illness. He had been in poor health for the past three years and his condition became critical recently and he was being cared for at the home of his sister, Mrs. Henry Bloom. He was taken to Rochester on July 7.

    Mr. Klaessy was a life long resident of this community. He was engaged in farming as long as his health permitted. He was a quiet, unassuming young man and a friend of all he came in contact.

    Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Henry Bloom home and at 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical church. Rev. A. W. Schlesslman of Merril, Iowa, a former local pastor, preached the sermon and was assisted by Rev A. Beuerman. Burial was made in the Luverne cemetery.

    Fredolin Klaessy was born October 21, 1895 in Vernon Township, Humboldt county, Iowa, the son of Joachim Klaessy and Anna Klaessy, nee Luchisinger. He was baptized October 18, 1896 in Vernon township by the late Rev. J. Kuhn, pastor, of the "Zwingli Gemeinde".

    On February 28, 1918 he married to Leona Catherine Holm who preceded him in death. To this union were born one son, Eugene H., and one daughter, Eunice L.

    Fredolin Klaessy passed away July 24, 1941 at Rochester, Minn., at the age of 45 years, 9 months and 3 days.

    He is survived by one son, Eugene H. of Corwth; one daughter, Eunice L. of LeMars; one grandson, Richard; one brother, Samuel of Spencer; and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Stauffacher of Harrisburg, S. D., Mrs. Emma Bloom and Mrs. Verena Phipps of Renwick, and Mrs. Otillia Kittley of Hardy; besides numerous other relatives and many friends.

    Among the relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Ida Stauffacher of Harrisburg, S. D., Fred Stauffacher of Harrisburg, Sioux Falls, S. D., Wm.     Sam Klaessy of Spencer Died Last Week

    Samuel Klaessy was born January 20, 1888 at Jordan, Wis., the son of Joachim and Anna Luchsinger Klaessy, deceased.

    At the early age of four he moved with his parents to a farm near Renwick, Iowa, and here he lived until he moved to Spencer in 1935. In this city he worked as a salesman for a Dairy Equipment Company until illness prevented his continuance.

    He received his education at a country school near Renwick.

    He was united in marriage to Miss Signed M. Holm, March 11, 1914 at Luverne, Iowa to which union were born four children.

    Mr. Klaessy gave his heart to the Lord and became a Christian several years ago. On October 27, 1937, he united with the First Baptist Church of Spencer. While living at Renwick he was a member of the Swiss Reformed Church near that place. He was an honored and respected member of the Baptist Church and Rendered very valuable service to to it in the capacity of a trustee, and he will be missed much.

    On May 26, 1947, he suffered his first stroke which caused him to become confined to bed from that time. He passed away at his home at Spencer April 9, 1949 at 3:30 p.m. from circulatory collapse, having reached the age of 61 years, 2 months and 19 days.

    He leaves to mourn, his wife, Mrs. Signed Klaessy; one daughter, Miss Velva Klaessy of Arlington, Va.; three sons, Don H. of Spencer, Dale S. of Philadelphia, Pa., and Earl S. of Spencer; also four sisters, Mrs. Ida M. Stauffacher of Harrisburg, South Dakota; Mrs. Emma Bloom of Renwick; Mrs. Wilbur Phipps of Renwick; and Mrs Albert Kitley of Eagle Grove. Besides the relatives, a host of friends mourn his passing.

    Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

    Funeral services were held on Wednesday April 13, at the First Baptist Church at Spencer with the Rev. C. O. Loken in charge. Music was furnished by the three Krile brothers who sang "Will Say Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There," and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied at the organ by their mother. Burial was at North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer.

    Eunice Lorraine Bennett, 91, passed from this world on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Duke Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. She was born July 4, 1921 in Renwick, IA to Fredolin and Leona (Holm) Klaessy. After graduating from Renwick High School, she attended Westmar College where she met Ray Bennett.

    She and Ray were married on September 7, 1941, and resided in Iowa until 1954 when they moved to Shell Lake. Eunice worked for Shell Lake School District for many years until her retirement. She was very active with community organizations, a charter member of the Indianhead Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Shell Lake City Council, and a longstanding member of the United Methodist Church.

    She is survived by sons Robert (Sarah) Bennett of Bismarck, ND, and Bruce (Joan) Bennett of St. Paul, MN; 5 grandchildren, Natalie (Andy) Cogswell, Rebecca Gunderson, Jay Bennett, Mark Bennett and Sam Bennett; 4 great grandchildren, Ryley and Megan Gunderson and Robert and Andrea Cogswell; her sister, Bernice Hobbet; a sister-in-law, Eloise Klaessy and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1978; her parents; her special aunt, Ottilia Kitley and her brother, Eugene.

    Being a child of the depression, Eunice recognized the sacrifices that were made by her family in overcoming the hardships of that time. From these experiences, she understood the importance of her family, hard work, and the need to help those less fortunate than she. Eunice was a kind and gracious lady. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

    Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Shell Lake.

    Commander U. S. Navy (Retired) Dale Stanley Klaessy died Sunday September 9th, 2012 at St Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota.

    He was born to Samuel and Signed (Holm) Klaessy in January 1922 in Renwick, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm with his three siblings. At age thirteen, the family moved to Spencer, Iowa where he graduated from high school. He then attended and graduated from Northwestern College. He became a member of the school's chorale club and was the second bass in their gospel quartet. It was while giving concerts in Ottertail County, Minnesota that he met his future wife, Ione Jewel Aune, the sister of Vernon, also a member of the quartet. Dale and Ione were married in Pasco, Washington on June 15th 1945. They were blessed with three children, Sam, Kit, and John.

    Following graduation from Northwestern, Dale joined a classmate to work on the annual log drive on the Wind River for the Wyoming Tie and Timber Company of Riverton, Wyoming.

    In 1942, he enlisted as an aviation cadet in the U. S. Navy. Following training, he was commissioned an ensign and awarded the Navy golden wings. After torpedo bomber training, he was deployed to the war in the Pacific. During his twenty-five year career as a naval aviator, he participated in the atomic tests at Eniwetok in the Pacific, contributed to developments in airborne electronics, was deployed in the Mediterranean during early Middle East tensions. He had shipboard responsibilities as navigator of the carrier USS Siboney and as Air Boss of the carrier USS Antietam. He finished his naval career as the head of radar and air traffic control at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island.

    He earned a Bachelors of Arts from University of Mississippi, a Masters of Education from Bridgewater State College, Massachusetts, graduate studies in guidance and counseling and management science at Moorhead State College. He also attended USC, Brigham Young, and Columbia University.

    After retiring from the Navy he was employed at the Fergus Falls State Hospital from October 1968 to April 1984 in the field of mental health. After his retirement Dale continued to serve others from coaching Special Olympics golf to delivering Meals on Wheels.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ione, his son Samuel, his sister Velva Klaessy, his brother Don Klaessy, sisters-in-law Mary Lou Klaessy, Kathryn Maiolini, Ruth Estes, Helen Aune, Gudren Otto, Charlotte Rhoades, and; his brothers-in-law Lawrence Aune, Charles Estes, Vernon Aune, Herbert Otto, Julian Wold. Irv Dennen, and James Aune.

    Dale is survived by his children Kit (Gary) Harriger, John (Kelli) Klaessy, and Shelley Klaessy: grandsons Max (Sara) and Sam Harriger; brother Earl (Verla) Klaessy; brothers-in-law Frank Maiolini, John (Beverly) Aune, Ben Rhoads, and Philip (Joyce) Aune, and; sisters-in-law Mary Wold , and Beverly Dennen: and by many loving nieces and nephews.

    Dale lived a full and satisfying life. His joy was his family, his Bible, the beauty of this earth, combat flying, and almost seventy years of golfing.

    Memorials will be donated to Camp Joy.

    A Memorial Service will be 10 am, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2012 at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with Rev. Rod Tornquist officiating.

    Earl Samuel Klaessy, 87, of Spencer, went to his eternal home January 4, 2014. He was born August 15, 1926 in Renwick, IA, the fourth child of Samuel and Signed Marie (Holm) Klaessy. The family moved to Spencer in 1937. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. Earl spent one year working on the railroad in Montana. He entered the Navy in 1944, serving in the Pacific area until 1947. One of the ships was the USS Guilford.

    Returning to Spencer he worked for Woodcock Floral Company, Swain Auto Parts, Arnold Motor Supply and the US Post office as a clerk. On August 8, 1948 he married Verla Ayres and they made their home in Spencer for 65 years. They were blessed with two children, Kim Marie and James Earl. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing with friends in Canada and the US. He also enjoyed traveling and mountain climbing with Verla. They visited all 50 states, Canada, Europe and Israel.

    Karen K. (Klaessy) Olbert of Parker died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, in Aurora. She was born in Spencer, Iowa on July 2, 1943. In her earlier years she received her degree and worked as a nurse in Iowa. She then spent many years as a full-time mother raising her two daughters. Later on she became a paralegal and worked as a child advocate helping children of abuse. She was also the church secretary at the First Congregational Church in Boulder. She married Phil Olbert on Dec. 15, 1988. Later, they owned and operated the Lazy H Guest Ranch in Allenspark for eight years and then retired to Parker. She is survived by her husband, Phil; two daughters, Jennifer Ecker of Chicago; Tami Inskeep and her husband Jason of Greeley; two stepdaughters, Holly Price of Denver and Valerie Brown of Crownsville, Md.; four grandchildren, Katie Ecker, Sierra and Colton Inskeep and Corinne Price and her brother, Joel Klaessy of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Marilou Klaessy of Boulder. Memorial services were held Oct. 13, at the Parker Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Research Foundation.
