CARL HANSON
DIES AT 83

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 23, 1972 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua for Carl Hanson, 83. who died suddenly two days earlier. The Rev. Robert Lemmermann officiated, and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua.

Casket bearers were Merle Hatzky, Stuart Hatzky. Robert Fisher. Dale Sonne. Roger Laydon, and Richard Nicholson. Mrs. Donald Shepard was organist, and Mmes. Arthur Lindell and Darrell Haar look care of the flowers.

Carl Hanson was born in Chickasaw County in the Republic area on August 5, 1888, son of Hans and Louise Anderson Hanson. He attended country school in this area until the family moved to Nashua.

He served in World War I in Germany and France, and upon his discharge, returned to his trade as a carpenter. He had been a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and American Legion Post in Narhua.

He was united in marriage to Isa Van Kleeck February 3. 1926. To this union one son. Carl Junior, was born. He preceded his father in death in 1950.

Mr. Hanson and his wife, who survives him, lived at their present home for the past 46 years.

Besides his wife. Carl is survived by five sisters: Mrs. Mary Rogers of Orient, Mrs. Lena Kipling of Fontanclle, Mrs. Lillie Knutson of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Charles (Anna) Otto of Bassett, and Mrs. Gary (Emma) Fisher of Nashua, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Chris; and his son. Carl Jr.

Edna Casey, 98, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh, MN.

Funeral services will beat 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2002 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Russell Harris officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Sunday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Monday.

Edna Katherine Rossen was born in Eugene, Oregon on April 14, 1904 the daughter of Nels and Eleanor (Andersen) Rossen. In about 1910 Edna's father traded his farm in Oregon for the one in Red Lake County. She attended the Prairie Queen Elementary School in Terrebonne Township and graduated high school in Red Lake Falls. After Edna earned a Normal School One-Year Certificate in Teacher Training, she taught in Broadus, Montana in the 1920's.

Edna married James Henry Casey on September 3, 1930 in Shakopee, Minnesota and they began farming on Edna's father's farm in Terrebonne Township. Edna and James purchased the farm in the late 1930's. Together they had three children, Shirley Ann, James Donald, and Joseph Lawrence.

About 1948 Edna resumed teaching at the Prairie Queen School in Terrebonne Township. She also taught at the Huot School, and at an elementary school north of Red Lake Falls. During those years James and Edna would live on their farm in Terrebonne Township from spring through fall. During the winter they would live in Red Lake Falls.

In the late 1950's Edna accepted an elementary teaching position in the McIntosh Schools and taught in McIntosh until she retired at age 65. During those years James and Edna would live on their farm in Terrebonne Township from spring through fall. During the winter they would live in McIntosh.

Edna continued with her college education after she went back to teaching and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Moorhead State College. She also earned a Certificate for the Teaching of Remedial Reading. Edna taught a total of 26 years in schools and taught adult students in reading individually after her retirement. After Edna retired from teaching she and James lived on their farm and later moved to Red Lake Falls.

Until Mrs. Casey moved to McIntosh Manor Nursing Home, she remained active with the Red Lake County Fair Board, as she has been for more than twenty years. She was a member of the Red Lake County Board of Aging, The French Club (Afran) of Red Lake Falls, the Royal Neighbors of America, as Legislative Chairperson for the Retired Educators of America, the Advisory Council of Red Lake County, the Mentor and Red Lake Falls American Legion Auxiliary, the Minnesota State Department of Aging, Elderhostel, the Northwest Senior Federation and was also a 4-H Club leader in Red Lake County for eighteen years, and a Sunday School Superintendent in Mentor for seventeen years.

Edna is survived by one son, Joseph (Delphine) Casey of Estes Park, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James on October 31, 1973; daughter, Shirley Ann Foldoe; son, James Donald Casey; brother, Walter; and sister, Annie

CARL HANSON JR.
KILLED SUNDAY

Carl Hanson Jr., 17 year old Nashua High School senior, was instantly killed about 4 p.m. Sunday in a hunting accident on the Ed Pillasch farm, one and one half miles north of Charles City. He was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hanson Sr.

Elvin Kollman, 20, of Nashua was wounded slightly in the left shoulder by one pellet of No. 2 shot from a 12-gauge shotgun shell. He was released Monday from Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City.

With Hanson and Kollman were four sons of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dietz, Robert, 18; Kenneth, 21; Wendell, 17, and Wayne 14.

The youths were returning to their car after a fox hunt, when a double-barreled hammerless 12-gauge shotgun, carried by one of the youths, was discharged, the blast striking Hanson and Kollman. Carl Hauser, Floyd county coroner, ruled the death accidental and reported that no inquest was necessary.

Junior was active in athletics and music activities at Nashua High School. He earned letters in baseball, football and basketball and sang in the mixed chorus and boys' glee club. He played in the basketball game Friday night when the Bulldogs defeated Manly.

His death was a severe shock to the whole community as he had earned the admiration and respect of his schoolmates and adults alike. Sports fans, who have followed the success of the Bulldogs' teams, were shocked when news of Junior's death was received.

Funeral services for Carl Hanson Jr. were held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church. The Rev. F. L. Hanscorn of the Little Brown Church officiated and was assisted by Rev. E. C. Allen of the Methodist church.

The high school girls' small group, under the direction of Miss Louise Heisey, music instructor, sang. The members of the group were Virginia James, Darlene Wagner, Donna Davidson, Sylvia Estal; Jeannette Stocks, Betty Crooks, Verna Jakel and Jo Ann Wait. They were accompanied by Max Wagner.

The Misses Bertha Coffman, Iverne Wick, Alice Hammond and Shirley Muench were in charge of the flowers.

Pallbearers were six members of the high school basketball squad. They were Donald Kehe, Charles Jensen, Marvin Juel, Russell Nordman and Ed and Curtis Bigelow.

Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

Carl Hanson Jr., the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hanson, was born at Nashua, Iowa, March 13, 1932, and passed away near Charles City, Iowa, Jan. 22, 1950, at the age of 17 years and 10 months.

His home has always been in Nashua, where he attended grade and high school. He was a member of the senior class. Junior was a better than average student and was also active in many school activities. He earned letters in baseball, football and basketball by his courage and determination to be a good player. He sang in the mixed chorus and boys' glee club.

His pleasant disposition and cooperative spirit endeared him to his classmates and won the respect of his teachers. He lived a good life cheerfully. Those who knew him well have observed his growth in personality and character as he approached maturity. His life was full of promise for the future.

He is survived by his parents, his two grandmothers, Mrs. Lenna VanKleeck and Mrs. Hans Hanson, three uncles, five aunts and a great number of cousins and a host of friends.

Glenn H. "Bud" Knutson age 95 of Fredericksburg died Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, 2011, at the New Hampton Care Center.??

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams presiding. To this union three children were born. Bud initially farmed for ten years near Fredericksburg and then became an insurance agent and realtor. He is a member of Peace United Church of Christ. In public life he was a Past Master of the Masons, Past President of the Fredericksburg Lions Club and served as secretary and treasurer of the Rose Hill Cemetery for fourteen years. He enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of the Plum Creek Golf Course.??Survivors include two sons; Ronald (Karen) Knutson, Gaylord (Anna Marie) Knutson, all of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

Madelyn Louise Sonne was born August 8, 1925, in Nashua, the daughter of Gary and Emma (Hansen) Fisher. She received her education in rural country school and was a 1943 graduate of the Nashua High School. On July 22, 1945, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, she married Dale Sonne. To this union two children were born.

Madelyn taught country school for a few years and then engaged in farming with her husband near Colwell and Charles City before retiring to the Fisher family farm. Farming was an occupation she thoroughly enjoyed. She had a large garden, enjoyed sewing, baking, time outdoors and especially loved driving the tractor. Madelyn was very active in the community serving as a 4-H leader, a foster-grandparent, a Sunday school teacher and was a superintendant of junior exhibits at the Big 4 Fair where she also was a judge for baking. Memberships include the United Methodist Church and Circle, the former Rural Teachers Club, the Hogan?s Study club, the East St. Charles Community Club. In her later year she loved all ballgames. Whether it was basketball,football or baseball ? she always cheered for the Hawkeyes. She will be remembered by her family for her tender care and the love she showed.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Vicky) Sonne of Charles City; one daughter, Jane (Lynn) Elfers of Charles City; six grandchildren, Randy (Julie) Sonne, Sandy Sonne, Kathy (Matt) Crooks, Laura Elfers, Lisa (Nick) Peterson and Carrie Elfers; five great-grandchildren, Zachary Sonne,Cole Sonne, Brandt Sonne, Jena Peterson and Ava Peterson; one sister-in-law,Ann Carol Fisher of Maine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale on April 5, 2005; three brothers, Robert Fisher, Clair ?Skip? Fisher and Harold Fisher in infancy; niece, Sharon "Kay" Fisher-Shirley.

George Christian Steelhammer a longtime resident of Rochester, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at his home in Rochester.
He was born January 14, 1922 to Fritz Harold Steelhammer and Clara Miller Steelhammer in Nashua, Iowa.
George married Barbara Jean Sturdevant June 17, 1943, in Galvin, Washington. Mrs. Steelhammer died on October 15, 1999. On August 16, 2003, George married Eleanor (Tootie) Voight, who survives him. He leaves behind his Yorkie and special friend Molly.
George was a dairy farmer and also raised salmon at the family farm in Rochester. While dairy farming George was also a master sheetmetal craftsman and in the 1960's was co-founder of Chehalis Sheet Metal, which was later sold. George worked in the Bremerton naval shipyards during World War II.
George is survived by his five children; Eudora (Leonard) Carlson, Judy (Terry) Stratton, Debby (Dan) Swecker, Mark (Luanne) Steelhammer, and Glen (Clela) Steelhammer, all of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Van Doren of Redding, California, and Page (Margaret) Steelhammer of Fords Prairie, Washington.
Mr. Steelhammer passed away at the age of 88.

She has been a resident of the Dixieland area of rural Madera County since 1939. A homemaker, she taught school for a short time at the Dixieland School, but along with her husband of 60 years, Paul Janzen, she was involved in the family farming operation and the raising of their family.Catharine was a tireless worker at her church, the United Methodist Church of Madera, where she was a Take Charge person at countless dinners of the church. She was a Sunday School teacher for 35 years and was a member of the UMW (United Methodist Women). She was involved with the PTA and was a 4-H Leader at both Alpha and Dixieland Schools. She also served on the Election Board for 30 years. Catherine spent 27 days on a ship delivering cows and goats to South Korea for the Heifer Project. She was an active volunteer for this organization for 55 years.In addition to her husband Paul, Catherine is survived by her children and their spouses: Carl Janzen and his wife Christine of Madera, Glen and Vicki Janzen of Fresno, Ruth and George Beckman of Madera and Edith and John Hokman of Arcada, CA. She is the sister of Miles Miller of Upland, CA, Everett Miller of San Diego, CA, and Melvin Miller of Cherry Valley, CA. #She married Harold Lindstrom Sr., on July 18, 1979 and they lived in Salem. She met Harold at the Department of Corrections where she was a file clerk. At one time she had been a Kirby vacuum salesperson.

#She was a certified nutritionist and grew her own herbs and vegetables and loved drying and canning them.

#She was a lover of the Goodwill store, garage sales and was a collector of cookbooks. In her younger years she sang on the radio and was hired as a singer with the McGuire Sisters.

#Survivors include her children, Raymond George, Donald George, Dennis George, Beverly Hester and Sandra Nicholson; stepchildren, Jean Sischo, Dorothy Linscheid, Susan Teal, Jan Bennett, Hal Lindstrom Jr., and Steven Lindstrom; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services for former longtime McMinnville resident Frank Miller Collins of Silver City, N.M., were held Dec. 13 in Southwest ESP Center Unitarian Church. Disposition was by cremation.

Mr. Collins died Dec. 9, 2000, in his home in Silver City. He was 71.

Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Fairfield, Iowa, he was the son of E. Hobart and Nellie Miller Collins. He lived in McMinnville from 1948 to 1995, then moved to Silver City.

He graduated from Linfield College in 1952 with a degree in physics. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 at White Sands, N.M.

He was a physicist with the Linfield Research Institute and Field Emissions Corp. in McMinnville. Later he became a safety engineer with the Oregon Accident Prevention Division. He retired from the state in 1994.

He and Nancy J. Myron Nunley were married Sept. 2, 1961, in Gladstone. They later divorced.

Mr. Collins was active in Mimbres Masonic Lodge No. 10 and the Unitarian Church.

He loved the outdoors, his woods and his pets.

Survivors include two children, Greg Collins and Karin Collins, both formerly of McMinnville; and a sister, Alice Collins Musgrove of Sedona, Ariz.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bright Funeral Home, Silver City.

Cornelia M. McHale, 62, of 353 S. Hague Ave., Columbus, was killed about 3 p.m. yesterday when a car driven by her daughter collided with a dump truck just west of here, Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight E. Radcliff said.

McHale's daughter, Linda Scott, 36, of 1746 Rivermont Rd., Columbus, was in poor condition yesterday in Grant Medical Center in Columbus with fractured ribs and possible other internal injuries, Radcliff said.

Scott was northbound on Rt. 104 when she pulled into the path of a dump truck driven west on Rt. 22 by Randy E. Carroll, 34, of Chillicothe, the sheriff said.

Carroll was treated for bruises in Berger Hospital in Circleville.
