  • Notes
    • Donald "Don" Girard of Kuna, Idaho, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the age of 83. He left us peacefully and lovingly with his family at his side. He fought the battle but lost the war with cancer. Don was born March 23, 1933, in Burbank, S.D., to Alphonse and Stella Girard. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school and after returning from basic training he married Madonna "Donna" Millette July 30, 1953, in Vermillion, S.D. The Air Force life took him and Donna, along with their children, to many places they may never would have experienced, including three years in Germany. Along the way, wherever he went, he made life-long friends. While stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, he retired in 1973 after 20 years in the Air Force. Don then worked for Clark County as an operations coordinator at McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas. He retired from there after 22 years and enjoyed life traveling with Donna and being a grandpa and great-grandpa. While in Las Vegas, Don joined the Zelzah Masonic Lodge, becoming a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (33rd degree), the Royal Order of Jesters, the York Rite, the Legion of Honor, the Motor Patrol and he was the executive aide to the Potentate. For several years, he drove children from Las Vegas to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Los Angeles for medical treatment. Don was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. After 42 years in Las Vegas, he and Donna moved to Kuna, in November 2005 to be close to family. Don became active with the El Korah Masonic Lodge in Meridian, was a member of the Black Light Patrol and the Egg and Shell Club. Don is survived by his wife, Madonna Girard; his children, Kevin (Diane) Girard of Las Vegas, Kim (Stan) McClain of Sequim, Wash., and Kurt Girard of Star, Idaho; grandson, Chad (Lindsay) Girard of Kuna; granddaughter, Kristine Engholm of Angleton, Texas; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Zane and Zachary Girard of Kuna; sister, Marilyn Isaacson of Vermillion, S.D.; aunt, Dora Mae Miller of Onawa, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at the Veterans Cemetery, Boise, Idaho. Date and time will be announced. The family would like to thank Treasure Valley Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice , the Shrine Children's Hospital, or visit someone who doesn't get out much, call someone just to say hi, let them hear your voice. Remember Don's kindness and let it be your inspiration.
