    A memorial service for Michael A. "Mike" Borlaug will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Lawler, Iowa. Burial will be in Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

    Mr. Borlaug, 43, of Rochester, died Thursday (May 28, 2009) at his home.

    He was born May 24, 1966, to Allen D. and Wanda (Knutson) Borlaug, in Decorah, Iowa. He was raised in rural Lawler and graduated from New Hampton (Iowa) High School. He attended the University of Iowa for four years.

    Mr. Borlaug worked for Domino's Pizza in New Mexico, Hawaii, Wisconsin and Minnesota for more than 20 years. He also worked at Menards in Rochester and enjoyed sports.

    He is survived by his father and stepmother, Allen and LuAnn Borlaug of Lawler; a brother, Marc (Julie) Borlaug of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Michelle Anderson of Bloomington, Ind., and Alyssa Borlaug of Rochester; two stepbrothers, David (Sarah) Magner of Decorah, Iowa, and Michael (Kate) Magner of Denver; and his maternal grandparents, G.H. "Bud" and Vera Knutson of Fredericksburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Knutson; and his paternal grandparents.

    Glenn H. "Bud" Knutson age 95 of Fredericksburg died Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, 2011, at the New Hampton Care Center.??

    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, with Terry Elliott, Gary Schulz, Bill Mulder, Bryan O?Day, Ron Schutte and Brad Mohs serving as pallbearers. ??Friends may greet the family 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.

Knutson was born December 6, 1915, near Elma, the son of Henry K. and Lillie Julia ?Dolly? (Hanson) Knutson. He married Vera Mae Rodman at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, on February 6, 1938. To this union three children were born. Bud initially farmed for ten years near Fredericksburg and then became an insurance agent and realtor. He is a member of Peace United Church of Christ. In public life he was a Past Master of the Masons, Past President of the Fredericksburg Lions Club and served as secretary and treasurer of the Rose Hill Cemetery for fourteen years. He enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of the Plum Creek Golf Course.??Survivors include two sons; Ronald (Karen) Knutson, Gaylord (Anna Marie) Knutson, all of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

    ??He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera on May 29, 2010; his only daughter, Wanda Lou Borlaug; a great-grandson; Mike Borlaug; one sister, Karena Hartson.

    Vera Mae Knutson was born August 4, 1916, on a farm in Floyd County, Iowa near Charles City, the daughter of James R. and Ella Harriet (Burrows) Rodman. Vera was educated in rural schools in Butler and Chickasaw Counties and attended high school in Fredericksburg. She also attended the Pitzies School of Cosmetology in Waterloo.

    On February 6, 1938, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa Vera was united in marriage to Glenn Henry Knutson. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.

    Vera was a beautician, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her home, spending time with her family and sewing. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg.

    Vera is survived by her husband of 72 years, Glenn (Bud) Knutson of Fredericksburg; two sons, Gaylord Glenn (Anna Marie) Knutson and Ronald James (Karen) Knutson both Fredericksburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Wanda (Lou) Borlaug; six sisters and three brothers.
