| 62 | Ione Jewel Klaessy, 86, of Parkers Prairie, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie. She was born Nov. 14, 1920, to John and Inga Aune at their farm in Sverdrup Township near Underwood in Otter Tail County, where she was raised along with her 11 siblings. She attended Barnard School and graduated from Underwood High School. Ione was employed at various local businesses including Haberstad's Store and J.C. Penny in Fergus Falls. She was also employed as an inspector in Detroit, Mich., in the manufacturing of parts for the B-29 Superfortress during World War II. On June 15, 1945, she married Dale Klaessy at First Lutheran Church in Pasco, Wash. They met when Dale's gospel quartet, which included her brother, Vernon, performed locally. To those who knew her, she was credited with making each of the 29 places (in 13 states) where the family lived, unique and comfortable homes. Due to many long deployments during Dale's U.S. Navy career, Ione was often left to parent their three children, Sam, Kit and John alone. Ione was considered by many to be an accomplished artist. She was not only one of the early members and an officer of the Art of Lakes, but was also one of the initial organizers of the Phelps Mill Festival. A faithful volunteer at church and in the community, she belonged to the Gray Ladies nurses' assistants in the naval hospitals, worked at Camp Joy on Star Lake, and was a committed nursing home volunteer. Ione's other interest were Bible teaching, quilting, piano and travel. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dale; her children, Shelley (Sam) Klaessy; Kit (Gary) Harriger and John (Kelli) Klaessy; grandsons, Max and Sam Harriger; siblings, Kathryn (Frank) Maiolini, John (Beverly) Aune, Gudrun Otto, Mary (Julian) Wold, Philip (Joyce) Aune and Beverly (Irv) Dennen; brothers-in-law, Earl Klaessy and Ben Rhoads; sisters-in-law, Verla Klaessy and Marion Stith; and by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Samuel John Klaessy; brothers, Lawrence, Vernon and James; sisters, Ruth Estes and Charlotte Rhoads; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Klaessy and Helen Aune; and brothers-in-law, Don Klaessy, Charles Estes and Herbert Otto. | 66 | Marion W. Nelsen was born May 11,1917 to Peter C .and Anna Elsie (Rossen) Nelsen on a farm north of Curtis, NE. As a small child they moved to a farm south of Curtis where he attended country school and then graduated from NSA in Curtis in 1937. In 1941 he enlisted in the Air Force and was sent overseas in February of 1942. He was stationed in the South Pacific on Christmas Island, New Heberdies and Guadalcanal. He returned to the states June of 1944 and was stationed at Victorville Air Base, CA. He was later honorably discharged at Ft. Leavenworth in 1945. He married Wanda Fratti October 20, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. They returned to Curtis in 1947 and moved to a farm south of Curtis, living there 16 years. Their children Jim and Diane spent most of their young lives on this farm. The family moved north of Curtis in 1963 and lived there until 1990 when Marion and Wanda retired and moved to North Platte, NE after 43 years of farming. He was a life-time member of the American Legion and served on the school board of the Curtis Elementary School. His family remembers his love of his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was responsible for many of them learning to drive an old stick shift car on their farm south of Curtis. He was also an avid sports fan traveling to three states to watch his grandsons and great nephew play football. Marion was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and their spouses Leroy and Velma Nelsen, Kenneth and Dolly Nelsen, sisters and spouses Margaret and Marvin Schmid, Doris and Gerald Awtry, nephew Dennis Awtry and most recently his wife of 64 years, Wanda Nelsen. | 67 | Maurice Foldoe, 82, formerly of Hallock, MN died Monday, June 9, 2003. Maurice was born July 10, 1920 to Anna and Alfred Foldoe in Red Lake County, MN. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 26, 1942 to Dec. 30, 1945. He was stationed in the Phillipines during WWII. Maurice married Catherine Skaggs April 18, 1975. Maurice worked for Ingersoll Rand in Tulsa, Okla. until his retirement. Family survivors include his wife, Catherine; daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie and Doug Theroux, Weaverville, N.C., Carole and Dick Gatheridge, Humboldt, Debra Foldoe, Dallas, Texas, Son and Daughter-in-law Richard and Amani, Daytona, Fla./Cairo, Egypt, and step daughter and son-in-law Kay and Jerry Sextro, St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-laws Les and Elaine, Mentor; Stan and Shirley, Minneapolis, and sister and brother-in-law Wilma and Anton Oleson, Ariz. | 68 | Mindeord over Johannes Exner af Kim Dirckinck-Holmfeld, Arkitekt MAA, seniorforsker og forfatter "Johannes Exner er død". Stod tanken stille, da den besked kom. Hos mig ja. Det var naturligt, Johannes var 89 år gammel, og han havde oven i købet levet et meget længere liv, end koncentrationslejrfanger ellers fik tilmålt. Men Johannes? Måske er det en form for lammelse, der indtræffer, når nærtstående går bort. Man kan tilmed blive aggressiv. ?Det kan han sgu' ikke være bekendt.? Følelsen omkring dødsfald er ikke alene sorg, den blandes med allehånde andre, og for mig var det tabet af en evigt nysgerrig rorgænger, hvis kurs ikke var forudsigelig, dog altid interesseret i mennesker. Men også en form for havn hos en, der dybt havde reflekteret over livet og arkitekturens forhold til dette liv, uanset opgavens art. Johannes gav aldrig grydeklare svar, men han formåede at sætte tanker i sving, at udvide forståelsen og horisonten, evindelig optaget problemer, der vedrørte arkitekturens betydning for livet og tillige uudgrundelig, som da han om en prædikestol sagde: ?Bag ved nutidens bemalede overflade ligger med sikkerhed en smuk renæssancefortælling gemt, den kunne vi kalde frem ved at afskrælle de senere malingslag, og de smukke billeder, ville nok kalde på en stolthed i menighedsrådet.? Her ligger en historie gemt, men er det ikke lige så godt at vide, at den findes? Han fjernede ikke overflademalingen, men lod forstå, at prædikestolen var magisk i form af sin skjulte historie, og han fik oven i købet menighedsrådet med på ideen i en tid, hvor sensation er en standard i sig selv, foruden selvfølgelig forbindelser eller netværk, som det hedder. Det ragede Johannes en høstblomst. Det som til gengæld interesserede ham var at nå ind til arkitekturfagets inderste kerne; ikke blot at forstå, ikke blot at indse, men også at kunne omsætte denne indsigt i praksis ? i virkeligheden. Han misundte naturtalenter som Jørn Utzon og Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, der uden en dybtgående analyse af en problemkreds intuitivt havde fundet det samme, som han møjsommeligt og efter års studier havde kæmpet sig frem til. Snarere end misundelse var det fascination, han beundrede denne evne til synkretisk tænkning, som en genial aflæsning på et millisekund kan være. Både Johan og Jørn evnede dette, uden tilsyneladende at have sat sig grundlæggende ind i stoffet, og så måske alligevel? Johannes er arketypen på en reflekterende arkitekt. Uanset, hvad opgaven kunne bestå i, satte han sig ind i alt, hvad han kunne finde om sagen i fortid og nutid. Og han var ubønhørlig. Han gravede sig ned i tingene, der til tider kunne stige ham over hovedet, men denne kamp med ideerne og materien på en og samme gang gjorde ham tillige til en af de betydeligste danske arkitekter i nyere tid, og måske en af de bedste pædagoger. Hans engagement var smittende, og hans uudtømmelige nysgerrighed, hans empatiske og aldrig docerende eller bedrevidende holdning, hans optagethed af næstens problem, gjorde ham også i bibelsk forstand til den gode hyrde. I mere end 30 år stod han som den måske mest indflydelsesrige og prægende lærer i Arkitektskolen i Aarhus ? og helt uden at konkurrere med andre. Man kan ikke vide, hvad der ellers ville være sket på skolen, hvis det ikke var for et tilfælde. Johannes, der var medlem af ?den nye Hvidstengruppe?, blev sammen med sin far taget af Gestapo, og han fik bank i Spanien, den fine badeanstalt i Aarhus. Her kunne blodet skylles væk uden problemer. Oven i købet skulle han udholde, at hans elskede far skulle udsættes for tortur eller død, men han fraveg ikke sin historie. Han havnede i Frøslev med et brækket kæbeparti, og kunne ikke tage føde til sig. En interneret læge gav ham så en træstump, som han kunne bruge til at vride kæberne op: ?Det var ikke behageligt?, huskede Johannes; ?det var et tilfælde, men ellers var jeg død af sult?. Således og ad skæbnens irgange fandt han senere sin livsledsagerske, Inger, der gik på Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole. Han kendte hende fra gymnasiet, og han, der ellers ville have været forstmand, blev vendt imod arkitekturen. Inger kunne alt det, som han ikke kunne. Hun var og er en glimrende tegner. Hun har måske tillige et mere realistisk syn på timelige ting som økonomi etc., men frem for alt er hun selv en fremragende arkitekt. Det er blevet sagt, at hun skulle være administratoren i firmaet, men det kan hun ikke degraderes til. Inger og Johannes er uadskillelige, og deres værker kan netop ikke skilles ad på personer. Det er kendt, at Inger og Johannes Exner især har arbejdet inden for kirkebyggeri og restaurering, eksemplificeret ved deres mange kirker og Koldinghus. Det er vel ikke nødvendigt at sige, at de inden for begge områder har skabt epoke. I kirkebyggeriet via Johannes? evindelige nysgerrighed og Ingers følsomhed. Johannes, som henad vejen skabte den teoretiske begrundelse for det såkaldte cirkumstantesprincip, som de første gang brugte i Nørrelandskirken i Holstebro. Siden fulgte mange, mange kirker, men det var især inden for restaureringsområdet, at Johannes for alvor fik rusket op i debatten, både teoretisk og praktisk. Han opfandt oven i købet nye fotometriske opmålingsmetoder i kampen med det ret enorme Koldinghus, som ikke på gammeldags maner kunne være opmålt inden for budgettet. Det var bygningen som bærer af vidnesbyrd om hele den forudgående historie, der optog han: ?Fortælleværdien? som han kaldte det. Inger og Johannes var blevet spurgt, hvor lang tid de skulle have til at restaurere Koldinghus, og Johannes havde sagt: 20 år! Efter nogen tøven havde det noget befippede Boligministerium så sagt ja. Og, sagde Johannes: ?det tog 20 år med bøvl og problemer.? Bøvl henregnede han under uønskede hændelser, som politisk bævl eller ubegavede administratorer, medens problemer netop var en udfordring: Hvordan løser vi det lige? Jeg har i flere omgange haft den glæde at samarbejde med Inger og Johannes, og er altid gået inspireret fra møderne; de havde såmænd også udset mig til at skrive bogen om dem, men jeg måtte melde pas som følge af overarbejdelse. Det var jeg dengang ked af, men efter at have anbefalet Thomas Bo Jensen til at skrive bogen, må jeg indrømme at have været heldig: Et mere værdigt minde har man ikke kunnet sætte de to. Utvivlsomt kan Thomas fastslå Inger og Johannes? betydning for fag og undervisning; det er for mig så selvindlysende, at jeg vil nøjes med at citere Lars Juel Thiis: ?Johannes er i sig selv det største monument, som underviser, der har præget generationer, og som arkitekt, der har inspireret. Jeg spurgte ham engang, hvorfor han stadig brugte kvadratet? Jeg er endnu ikke blevet færdig med det, svarede han.? Man kan måske heller ikke blive færdig med Inger og Johannes, men man kan måske nu, efter det store livsværk reflektere som Paulus, og måske herved finde sammenhængen og storheden i disse to menneskers værk: ?Således ser vi som i et spejl, en gåde, men da skal vi se ansigt til ansigt; nu kender jeg stykkevis, men da skal jeg kende fuldt ud, ligesom jeg som selv er kendt fuldtud. Så bliver da tro, håb, kærlighed, disse tre; men størst af dem er kærligheden.? Her ved afslutningen ser vi så storheden af en livsindsats, som fragmenterne ikke kunne vise os, og som vi stadig ikke kender ?fuldtud?. Johannes liv var baseret på tro, håb og kærlighed. Troen og håbet som eneste udvej i koncentrationslejren, og kærligheden i den opbyggende tid: til mennesker, arkitektfaget og til livet. | 72 | Steve Nedzel, the Lincoln-Way West High School band director, died shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, friends close to the family said. He was 32. Members of the West band were informed at 5 p.m. According to an employee at Lincoln-Way District 210, Nedzel suffered head trauma from a fall as he was going to his apartment in Chicago on Tuesday morning. He is survived by his brother and his parents. A memorial service has not yet been set. According to the Lincoln-Way West Music Boosters' website, Nedzel directed the Wind Symphony, Marching Warriors, Pep Band and Percussion Ensemble. He also taught Music Technology I and II classes. Before coming to West in 2009, Nedzel was the assistant band director at Lincoln-Way Central for eight years. He directed the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band, taught Music Technology, Piano, and Guitar classes and also assisted with and wrote drill for the Marching Knights. According to the website, Nedzel grew up in Palatine and attended Fremd High School. He received a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Illinois and completed his Masters of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in 2005 and his Masters of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University in 2009. Friends and students of Nedzel's began to share their memories of the beloved music director with New Lenox Patch. "You meant so much to so many. She had been in failing health for some time and had been seriously ill the past three weeks. She is survived by her husband and five children, Mrs. Sam Klaessy of Spencer, Will Holm of Ottawa, Ill., Clifford Holm of Luverne, Clarence at home and Mrs. Harry Christenson of Mason City. One daughter, Mrs. Fred Klaessy, died some years ago. there are several grandchildren, one great grandchild and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at the house at 1:30 this Thursday afternoon and at 2:30 at the Baptist Tabernacle at Corwith. Burial will be made in the Luverne cemetery. Margaret Ann “Margie” Strickland, 61 years of age, of Republican City, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Harlan County Health System in Alma. Margie was born August 19, 1956 at Omaha, Nebraska, the eldest of three children of Clayton and Donna (Schroeder) Rossen. She received her education in El Cerrito, California, graduating from El Cerrito High School with the class of 1974. Following her education in California, she returned to Nebraska, where she focused her efforts on her three children: Christy, Richard and Alex. Margie was employed by Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for 19 years, and most recently she was employed at The Island in Republican City, where many of the patrons were like her second family. Margie loved the outdoors, and animals were always a big part of her life. She was an avid Husker fan, and the time she spent with her family and friends was treasured throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Richard. She leaves to celebrate her life; her two children: daughter, Christy Dean of Lincoln, Nebraska; and son, Alex Strickland of Grand Island, Nebraska; ten grandchildren: Mackenzie, Danielle, Dallas, Maddie, Dayson, Maddox, Taylor, Tyler, Colby, and Jayden; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Rossen and his wife, Janell of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Matt Rossen of Hastings, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Author: R.H. Harvey The relators, August Nachant and others, seek the issuance by the Supreme Court of a writ of mandamus against the Honorable W. E. Monteith, Judge of the District Court for the Sixty-first District, requiring him to observe and give full force and effect to the judgment of dismissal hereinafter mentioned. On November 8, 1926, and for several years prior to that date, there was pending in said district court a suit which was numbered 63,787 and styled G. H. Herman v. August Nachant, et al. On the date mentioned, November 8, 1926, a judgment of dismissal for lack of prosecution was entered in the suit. The suit was one of trespass to try title that had been instituted by G. H. Herman against the relators as defendants. Prior to such dismissal, G. H. Herman died and his representatives, who are co-respondents here, duly made themselves *Page 217 parties plaintiff in his stead. After the judgment of dismissal was entered the plaintiffs in the suit failed to file a motion for new trial or any other character of pleading within thirty days from the entry of the dismissal judgment. On January 12, 1927, they filed a pleading, bearing the same style and number of the dismissed suit, which pleading they denominated their "Motion to Reinstate and Bill of Review." The defendants in the dismissed suit, who are the relators here, waived citation and filed answer to this pleading. Afterwards the plaintiffs, under leave of court, filed an amended "Motion to Reinstate and Bill of Review," and the defendants filed an amended answer in response thereto. Thereupon the court, on July 1st, 1927, heard the said pleadings of the parties, and the evidence offered by the plaintiffs; and entered judgment purporting to set aside the dismissal judgment of November 8, 1926; and set the case down for further hearing on the merits at a later date. The relators strenuously resisted such action of the court on the alleged ground that the court was without jurisdiction because the term of court at which the dismissal judgment was entered had terminated, as respects the case in which such judgment was entered, prior to the filing of the original motion to reinstate and bill of review. And it is upon this ground that the relators seek the mandamus here, contending in effect that the purported motion and bill of review constitutes nothing more than an ordinary motion for new trial. The amended "Motion to Re-instate and Bill of Review," apart from its number and style, bears the earmarks of a petition in an independent suit for equitable relief. Its formal parts are those of a petition; and issues of fact are tendered as constituting a cause of action. It alleges an action of trespass to try title, describing the land involved in the dismissed suit. It alleges the former pendency of the suit, and the entry of the dismissal judgment, and alleges facts as showing that the dismissal was entered through accident and mistake. It also alleges facts as showing that the plaintiffs, through no fault of theirs, were unaware of such dismissal judgment having been entered until January 11, 1927; and facts are alleged as showing that the plaintiffs were not negligent in the premises. It alleges in detail a meritorious cause of action for the recovery of said land, which will be lost if the dismissal judgment is not vacated. It contains allegations of fact as showing that an appeal or writ of error will not afford the plaintiffs adequate relief from the destructive effects which the dismissal judgment has on their cause of action. Without summarizing further, it is deemed sufficient for us to say, *Page 218 that the pleading alleges facts in detail as affording the plaintiffs therein equitable grounds for the vacating of said judgment; the existence and sufficiency of which alleged facts the trial court, as a court of first instance, has jurisdiction to determine. We do not find it necessary to consider that provision contained in Section 30 of Article 2092 of the Statutes, which relates to bills of review. For it is our opinion that, regardless of that statute, the trial court had jurisdiction of the subject-matter of the plaintiffs' so-called Motion to Reinstate and Bill of Review. The averments of this pleading are of such nature as to require the trial court to take cognizance of the matters presented, as of a new suit seeking equitable relief, even if such pleading should not be entertained as a continuation of the old suit. Galbraith v. Bishop, 287 S.W. 1087; Osborne v. Younger, 235 S.W. 558. The judgment, in respect of which the plaintiffs in said pleading seek relief, is one of dismissal. Therefore it is of no consequence, in this proceeding for mandamus, whether the interlocutory order of July 1, 1927, purporting to set aside such judgment, does or does not effect that purpose. A decision in this proceeding does not require a determination as to the effectiveness of such interlocutory order, and we express no opinion in that regard. I parrets lange samarbejde har deres indsats ikke kunnet skilles fra hinanden. Hun voksede op i Randers i et kristent og borgerligt hjem med fire søstre. Faderen solgte metalvarer, moderen var hjemmegående. I barndommen interesserede hun sig for at tegne, og efter studentereksamen fra Randers Statsskole 1945 og et år som ung pige i huset gik hun på Arkitektskolen 1946-54. I studietiden arbejdede hun 1951-53 på tegnestuen Bjørn & Bernadotte med udformning af industrielt design. I 1952 blev hun gift med studiekammeraten Johannes E., som hun havde kendt siden gymnasiet. Som andre i tiden var de optaget af den internationale modernisme kombineret med social forståelse og funktionelle aspekter. Det moderne skulle senere i deres værker blive blandet med traditionen på en helt særlig Exnersk måde i deres mange kirkebyggerier. Kirkerestaureringer havde parret kendskab til gennem IEs svigerfader, der var provst, og restaureringsarbejde blev en del af deres hverdag, da ægtefællen i 1956 blev ansat hos arkitekt ?Mogens Koch, der restaurerede kirker. Også personligt var ægteparret forankret i kristendommen, og de førte teologiske samtaler med bl.a. arkitekt Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, som de kendte fra studietiden. Sammen med Spreckelsen udarbejdede de et ikke-realiseret kirkeprojekt i Vangede. I 1958 oprettede parret egen tegnestue i Århus efter at have vundet 1. præmie i en konkurrence om en ny kirke i Randers sammen med arkitekt Knud Erik Larsen. Skt. Clemens Kirke i Randers 1963 blev den første af parrets i alt 13 nye kirker, der kom til at ligge med stor geografisk spredning ud over landet. Hvor Skt. Clemens Kirke er en processionskirke, blev de efterfølgende kirker udformet ud fra den overbevisning, at forkyndelsen ifølge den lutherske kirkes selvforståelse bør foregå blandt menigheden, snarere end fra et ophøjet alterscenarie for enden af en gang. Liturgien fordrer, at kirken udformes som en centralkirke med menigheden samlet omkring alter, font og prædikestol. Dette princip benævnte IE og hendes mand i 1964 ?circumstantes?, dvs. omkringstående, efter et udtryk i A. Rappes bog Domus eccleciae. I Præstebro Kirke i Herlev 1966-69, i Sædding Kirke i Esbjerg 1978, og i Skæring Kirke i Århus 1994 er alteret placeret i det ene hjørne og adgangsvejen i den ene diagonal. Opstandelseskirken i Albertslund 1984 er udformet med inspiration fra byzantinske ottekantede kirker. Kirkerummet er oplyst af sprækker i ottekantens hjørner, der kaster strejflys ind på væggene med rosafarvede felter. Stofligheden og lyset kommer på anden vis dramatisk frem i den kubisk formede Islev Kirke 1968-69, hvor rummet er oplyst af sparsomt nedsivende dagslys. Rummets dunkle stemning er inspireret af romanske kirker. Det gælder også Nørre Uttrup Kirke i Nørresundby 1975-77. Den arkitektoniske oplevelse af de enkelt udformede rum er stærkt understøttet af en rusticitet med inspiration fra den svenske arkitekt S. Lewerentz. Som hos Lewerentz er IE og hendes mands foretrukne materiale tegl, og det er anvendt i rigt mål ud fra et homogenitetsprincip, som de udformede efter en studierejse i 1953 til italienske landsbyer, hvor de oplevede, at alt havde samme materialekarakter. Nørrelandskirken i Holstebro 1967-69 er således opført udelukkende i tegl og fremstår med en stram skulpturel styrke, der henleder tanken på den amerikanske arkitekt L. Kahn. Homogenitetsprincippet anvendtes også til at udforske andre materialer som beton, der benyttedes med forskellige overflader i Gug Kirke i Ålborg 1973. IE og Johannes E. har fået næring til deres eftertænksomme og holdbare kirkebyggerier gennem målrettede studier. Til grund for de færdige værker har ligget et stort forarbejde med modeller og skitser samt en omfattende rejseaktivitet til vest- og østeuropæiske kirker. Drivkraften bag den ihærdige indsats har været ønsket om at rense ud og skabe klarhed på alle planer i en bygning såvel funktionelt som æstetisk, og deres indsats har også omfattet inventar. Til flere kirker har slægtningene, guldsmedene ??Helga og ?Bent Exner, udført stager, krucifikser og altersølv. I 1960?erne og 1970?erne udførte IE og hendes mand et stort antal kirkerestaureringer. På dette område udtrykte de deres personlige opfattelse af tidens processer, som de ønskede skulle være synlige i modsætning til en mere rigid tilbageføring til det oprindelige. Deres hovedværk har dog ubetinget været Koldinghus, som de gennem 20 år førte tilsyn med og restaurerede på opfordring fra Boligministeriet 1972-92. Slottets oprindelige form fra 1808 blev genetableret uden at sløre tidligere tiders byggeaktivitet. Indsatsen påkaldte sig international bevågenhed og affødte Europa Nostra Prisen i 1994. Deres fineste opgaver omfatter også restaureringen af Rundetårn, Trinitatis Kirke og Trinitatis Kirkeplads med nyskabelsen Trinitatis Sognehus 1983, som blev en af de første sognegårde, som tegnestuen opførte. De i alt 11 sognegårde opført fra 1978 og frem er vidt forskellige og synes i højere grad end kirkerne at tage udgangspunkt i stedet. Til Roskilde Domkirke har de med ?Vilhelm Wohlert også tegnet ?Frederik 9.s begravelsesplads. Deres værker har været vist på mange udstillinger, senest den retrospektive udstilling Inger og Johannes Exner på Museet på Koldinghus 1996. De har modtaget utallige priser og æresbevisninger, bl.a. He was born May 24, 1966, to Allen D. and Wanda (Knutson) Borlaug, in Decorah, Iowa. He was raised in rural Lawler and graduated from New Hampton (Iowa) High School. He attended the University of Iowa for four years. Mr. Borlaug worked for Domino's Pizza in New Mexico, Hawaii, Wisconsin and Minnesota for more than 20 years. He also worked at Menards in Rochester and enjoyed sports. | 86 | After being confined to his home for over seven weeks, complications caused the death of Jacob Frost, better known as "Jack Frost," a veteran saloon man of Davenport. Death occurred Sunday at the family residence, 2680 Rockingham Road, at the age of 62 years. He will be remembered here especially among the baseball fans, who have visited his his oasis outside of the baseball park. Deceased was born Aug. 12, 1851, in Germany, and in 1868 came to America. He came direct to Saint Ainsky, and two years later to Davenport, where he has since lived. In the year 1894 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Jeppeson, who survives. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at First Baptist Church in Minot. Interment will take place in the spring at Balfour Cemetery. Agnes Wilde was born Sept. 20, 1916, in rural Drake, the daughter of Richard and Minnie (Hoffman) Wilde. She was reared and educated in the rural Drake area. Her first husband, Bartel Thompson, died after a few years of marriage. Agnes married Vernon Westergaard on Dec. 4, 1944, in Minot. They lived in Minot for a short time. In 1945, they moved to the family farm, north of Balfour in Lake George Township, McHenry County. Vernon died in 1973, and Agnes continued to live on the farm and assisted with operation of the farm until 1990. Then she moved to Minot, where she lived with her daughter, Janice Strube, until her death. Agnes had a great love for life. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafts, plants and baking. She was very good at all of them. At the age of 85, she won 15 blue ribbons at the North Dakota State Fair for plants, baking and crafts. Her living room contained a variety of unique household plants including a producing pineapple plant and orange and banana trees. Agnes lived a full and productive life. Her great sense of humor, ability to look for the best in every situation, work ethic and love of people sustained her during many difficult challenges. She will be remembered as a loving, caring mother and grandmother, a friend to many and someone who was willing to share whatever she had. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Agnes was a longtime member of Balfour Lutheran Church and attended First Baptist Church while living in Minot. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Janice Strube and her husband, Delton, of Minot; her son, Neil Westergaard and his wife, Fern, of Williston; eight grandchildren, Grace and Gabe Strube, Scott Westergaard and his wife, Shantha, and Steve Westergaard and his wife, Lisa, all of Minot, Jenny Olson and her husband, Lance, of Williston, Nicole Roles and her husband, Kevin, of Farmington, Minn., Dean Thompson and his wife, Stacy, of Columbia Falls, Mont., and Shannon Thompson of Houston; nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Wil and Abby Olson, Tyler and Samantha Thompson, Tyler Westergaard, Cole Thorson and Tara Thompson; and two sisters, Velma Thom of Green Acres, Wash., and Florence Sherlock of rural Balfour. As a child of the depression and the 2nd of 4 daughters, Aneta knew that homemade fun was best and simple things were to be appreciated. She had many stories about growing up on the prairies around the Viking/Jarrow area of Alberta. Week long blizzards, riding her saddle pony, walking with her sisters across the fields to their one room schoolhouse, Christmas concerts and dances with cousins and neighbours in the farm house kitchen were favourite memories. She was always devoted to both her parents and 2 younger sisters and loved singing with them as they did the supper dishes. Aneta was working as a teacher when she met Pershing Sutter, 2nd of 4 sons, from Loughheed, Alberta. He was farming with his parents and brothers after his stint in the Air Force. The couple soon eloped to Camrose in the spring of 1947 and returned to build a small cottage, up in the low hills, down a narrow dirt trail. Hand painted butterflies on the kitchen walls, the occasional badger in the cellar, and a balky milk cow in the lean-to barn had them all set to start a family. In 5 years they had 3 daughters, Dianne (Russ), Bonnie (Juan) and Susan (Keith). In 1953 the family followed Aneta’s parents to the Portland, Oregon area. Pershing bought a garage/gas station and worked on anything with a motor. Aneta always thought Oregon was the most beautiful, progressive place on earth. The family returned to Alberta to help work the Sutter farm in 1962. Aneta enjoyed attending the Lutheran church, going to community dances and being a farm wife. She grew a large garden, canned anything not nailed down, delivered huge lunches down to the fields, drove trucks and tractors and took care of an assortment of livestock. Aneta and Persh retired from their farm in 1978, and happily moved to Peachland, B.C. They built a beautiful house overlooking the lake up in the pinehills. In 1982 they moved to Bowser to be closer to the kids. They bought an acreage and Aneta was happy to have long summer visits with their grandchildren Todd, Kwel, Mandy, Zach and Arabella. They became Phoenix Snowbirds. Aneta bought a large kiln and continued with her art projects. Persh’s declining health necessitated a move to the Comox Valley. Aneta volunteered in the hospital auxiliary, began community guitar lessons at the Filberg Centre and enjoyed numerous trips to her sister Stella’s family in Portland, and her sister Ellen’s family in Alberta. Aneta’s husband passed away on November 10, 2003 and by the spring she had contracted to have the entire house interior painted in pinks and melon shades and covered every window in lace curtains. She organized family reunions, chili cook-offs and continued baking her wonderful cookies earning her the family nick name “Grandma Cookie.” About this time, mom thought it would be fun to start a kitchen band. “The Country Girls and Guys” was a great success. Aneta was never happier, hosting rehearsals, making song books, handling “gigs” at local care facilities. A special thank you from our family goes to Ron Burr of Comox, who acted as Aneta’s handyman/gardener. Ron’s kindness, interest and humour aided mom in staying in her house longer as it slowly became more and more apparent that she was beginning to suffer from Alzheimers. Aneta was very reluctant to leave her house and move to Casa Loma. However once she was settled in, she enjoyed the good company and meals and her cozy apartment. She played non-stop games of crib with her best friend Andre and got lots of kind direction form Cindy and enjoyed activities with Judy. Aneta’s final home was as special care unit at Glacier View. The very kind experienced aides made her short stay there as pleasant as possible. The family would particularly like to thank Aneta’s primary nurse Shannon for her loving care and Erika Maynard, Aneta’s nurse practitioner. | 93 | Ann Marie Stuck, age 78, a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020. She was born September 23, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas to Herbert and Eula Mae Thomas McMahon. The majority of her employment years involved cooking. Her family and friends were in agreement she was one outstanding cook. She enjoyed the time she spent playing cards with her sons at home, and in her younger years, playing softball with a local league. Ann was an active member of the Elks Lodge simply because the organization held her own personal beliefs to always help others when you can. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband who passed away in 2000, James Fredrick Stuck; and grandson, Joseph Andrew Stuck. Ann is survived by her four sons, Tim Stuck and wife Faye, Joe Stuck, James Stuck and wife Debbie, and Chris Stuck; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Tessie Montgomery, Herbie McMahon, Barbara (Babs) Stephenson, and Pam King; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companion, Casper. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30, 2020 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, 1985 Pleasant Ridge Road, Westville, Florida 32464, with Pastor Dale Paul officiating. | 94 | Anton Marius "Andy" Andersen, 88, died Sunday in Klamath Falls. Mr. Andersen was born April 23, 1899 in Ballum, Denmark, to Lorens and Christine Marie Thomsen Andersen. He was married to Margarethe Nissen in Flanesburg, Denmark, Nov. 9, 1922. She preceded him in death Aug. 7, 1969. They moved to Klamath Falls from New Jersey in 1938. He worked for many years as a lumber grader before his retirement. Mr. Andersen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Woodworkers Union. | 96 | Arne Christensen, age 88, longtime resident of Scottville, went to be with Jesus on Sunday morning, March 11. He passed away at Oakview Medical Care Facility, in the presence of his family who loved him and will greatly miss him. Arne was born on June 2, 1912, in Kvong, Denmark, to James and Marie (Sorensen) Christensen. He and his family moved to the United States in 1921 when he was 9 years old and first settled in Nebraska. In 1923 they moved to Michigan. Arne graduated from Scottville High School in 1932. He married Eleanor Henkel in 1935. She preceded him in death in January 1980. He married Florence Christensen in 1981 and she survives. Arne worked for the Scottville A&P Grocery Store, Dow Chemical during World War II, and later became Warehouse manager at Stokely?s Canning Factory. He also worked as office manager for Hansen?s Evergreen Dairy in Scottville, retiring in 1977. Arne was an exceptional athlete in his youth, excelling in many sports. He loved to be involved in community athletics volunteering his time in coaching, umpiring and service. Arne also served on the Scottville City Council, was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ludington, a 70-year member of the Danish Brotherhood in America Lodge No. 51, and an honorary lifetime member of the Scottville Optimist Club. He will be lovingly and respectfully remembered by his children, Darlene (Richard) Bettison of Ludington, and Jim Christensen of Fountain; and also by his stepchildren, Ralph (Arlene) Christensen, Nedra (Robert) Haupt, Audrey McDonald, Nels (Sandy) Christensen, Peter (Jackie) Christensen, Lance (Cathy) Christensen; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arne was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray and Gunnar Christensen. His two sisters, Gerda Schaap and Bertha (Clarence) Madsen survive. A memorial service will be held for Arne at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ludington with the Rev. B. Douglas Niemi and the Rev. John Christensen officiating. There will be no funeral home visitation. | 97 | Arnold 'Andy' H Anderson, Midwest City, OK, passed away on April 30, 2004. He was a dedicated, devoted, loving Christian, husband, father, brother and friend who devoted his life to Christ and his family. He will be dearly missed. Andy graduated from high school in Russell, MN, in 1952, received an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma and was a registered Professional Engineer. He served in the USAF during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1957 and was an Electronics Engineer at Tinker AFB where he retired in 1993. His parents were the late John and Olga (Stelter) Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Nell (Henderson) Anderson; two daughters, Diane Earnest and Dr. Sandra Ashford and husband Clifton; grandchildren Brandy, Jamie, Alissa and Jimmy; great grandchild Kamdyn; siblings, Esther, Donald, Louis and wife Delores Walter and wife Marilyn, Norman, Marian Collins and husband Gary, Merlin and wife Meg; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was born Aug. 17, 1959, at McCook, Nebraska, to Robert 'LeRoy' and Velma (Ramels) Nelsen and graduated in 1978 from Curtis-Medicine Valley High School. Chris was a longtime sales Manager at Scott-Hourigan Co. in York. Chris loved golfing, attending farm shows and traveling for work. He also enjoyed his toy tractor collection and his two best buddies "Jazzy and Lizzy." In December of 1979 Chris was married to Judy Jurgens at Curtis. Then on Nov. 28, 1998, he was married to Denise (Reese) Shirley at North Platte. He is survived by his wife, Denise, of York; his son, Daniel Lee Nelsen of Moorefield, Nebraska; twin daughters, Erica LaRae (Brett) Bartlett of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Joslyn Renee Nelsen of Curtis; son, Brian (Chelsea) Reese of Hickman, Nebraska; daughter Jenny (James) Snook of Lincoln, Nebraska and son, Tyler Reese, also of Lincoln. Also surviving is his brother, Don Nelsen ( Johnna Rutenber) of Krum, Texas and his sisters, Charlene (Gaylord) Johnson of Hastings, Nebraska, Emily (Lumir) Hayek of Ord, Nebraska, Janice Nelsen of Hastings and Lori (Tom) Tobiasson of North Platte. His grandchildren include MacKenzie Nelsen and Bentley Campbell, both of Curtis, Jacoby Snook of Lincoln, Batie Reese of Hickman and Brecken Bartlett of North Carolina and his in-laws Vernon "Sonny" (Eileen) Shirley of North Platte, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in York with Mary Scott officiating. Private family inurnment to be held at a later date.
