  • Notes
    • Joel was only 15 when he emigrated to America in 1898 on the ship Cymric. The ship was caught in a storm and landed
in Virginia instead of New York., where his two brothers, Frank and Albin, were. . All he had for food was moldy bread and somehow found his way to the train station where some kind soul helped him get to Upland, Nebraska to his sister Elin who had married Frank Osterlund. Quite a feat for someone who didn't speak English at all. His oldest sister, Alma married a Bergman and also settled in New York.
