| 252 | EPPING -- Harold B. Braley Sr., 77, died Nov. 25, 2013, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, after a long period of declining health following a major stroke nine years ago. He was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Northwood, son of the late George Moses Braley and Bertha (Murray) Braley. Harold was the youngest of 13 children. He grew up in Northwood and Epping. Harold lived more than 50 years on St. Laurent St. in Epping. He spent most of his adult life working at Spaulding and Frost Barrel Co. in Fremont and later worked in woodworking at the Penny Fence Co. in Derry for 15 years. Harold was on both the volunteer police and fire departments in Epping. He is survived by his son, Harold Braley Jr.; a stepson, John Long; a stepdaughter, Serina Roy; five grandchildren, Allyson Roy, Austin Long, Cole Long, Jordan Long and Kayla Braley; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Epping. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping. Flowers are acceptable. | 255 | Ethelyn (nee Heitman) Rossen, a resident of the Oakton Arms, Des Plaines, died on Dec. 25 in Lutheran General Hospital. She was a resident of Park Ridge from 1954 to 1998. She was active in the Twentieth Century Juniors, Twentieth Century Club and Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She also was past president of the Park Ridge Historical Society and a key member of the Park Ridge Heritage Committee. She worked as an audiologist in the late 1970s for the Village of Skokie and the state of Illinois. Survivors include her children, Betsy Rossen Elliot and Roger (Patty) Rossen; and grandchildren, Miranda and Dana Elliot. A memorial service was held on Dec. 29 at Drake and Son Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Burial was private. Memorials to Children's Shriners Hospital, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, Ill., are appreciated. | 256 | Eunice Lorraine Bennett, 91, passed from this world on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Duke Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. She was born July 4, 1921 in Renwick, IA to Fredolin and Leona (Holm) Klaessy. After graduating from Renwick High School, she attended Westmar College where she met Ray Bennett. She and Ray were married on September 7, 1941, and resided in Iowa until 1954 when they moved to Shell Lake. Eunice worked for Shell Lake School District for many years until her retirement. She was very active with community organizations, a charter member of the Indianhead Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Shell Lake City Council, and a longstanding member of the United Methodist Church. She is survived by sons Robert (Sarah) Bennett of Bismarck, ND, and Bruce (Joan) Bennett of St. Paul, MN; 5 grandchildren, Natalie (Andy) Cogswell, Rebecca Gunderson, Jay Bennett, Mark Bennett and Sam Bennett; 4 great grandchildren, Ryley and Megan Gunderson and Robert and Andrea Cogswell; her sister, Bernice Hobbet; a sister-in-law, Eloise Klaessy and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1978; her parents; her special aunt, Ottilia Kitley and her brother, Eugene. Being a child of the depression, Eunice recognized the sacrifices that were made by her family in overcoming the hardships of that time. From these experiences, she understood the importance of her family, hard work, and the need to help those less fortunate than she. Eunice was a kind and gracious lady. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Ken had been employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for many years and had worked for the Town and Country Motel, Streator and the former Janusic Auction Service, Lostant. He attended Ottawa grade schools and was a graduate of Ottawa High School . He was a member of First United Methodist Church , Streator. Ken was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in Europe . | 271 | Frymark, Annette Mae Annette Frymark (née Rossen), age 89, of Burr Ridge, died Friday, January 17, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 27, 1924 in Oak Park, Illinois, and grew up in River Forest with her mother Ruth Rossen, her brother Matthew, and her grandparents. She was a graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School. In 1946 she married William Frymark, M.D. and accompanied him during his Naval service on Guam. They later lived in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin and in Oak Park before making their family home in Hinsdale, where they resided for 47 years before moving to Burr Ridge. Summers were spent with family in Saugatuck, Michigan. Annette was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Hinsdale Hospital Distaff, the Infant Welfare Society of Hinsdale, the Suburban Protestant Guild of Oak Park, and the Hinsdale Golf Club. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth, her brother Matthew Rossen, and her parents-in-law Emily and August Frymark. She is survived by Bill, her devoted husband of 67 years, her loving children Nancy (Calvin) Roesner, William (Cynthia) Frymark, Jr., MD, and John (Tami) Frymark. She is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren; Charles (Marisa Wlodek) Roesner, Anne (Nicholas) Petty, Craig (Jenn) Frymark, Carolyn (John) Vendafreddo, Keith Frymark, Alison Frymark, and Jack Frymark. In the past year she also became great-grandmother to Virginia Mae Petty and Cameron Crawford Frymark. Annette will be remembered by her family and friends as an avid tennis player who loved to sing and dance, usually in the kitchen, and play the piano by ear. | 275 | George Christian Steelhammer a longtime resident of Rochester, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at his home in Rochester. He was born January 14, 1922 to Fritz Harold Steelhammer and Clara Miller Steelhammer in Nashua, Iowa. George married Barbara Jean Sturdevant June 17, 1943, in Galvin, Washington. Mrs. Steelhammer died on October 15, 1999. On August 16, 2003, George married Eleanor (Tootie) Voight, who survives him. He leaves behind his Yorkie and special friend Molly. George was a dairy farmer and also raised salmon at the family farm in Rochester. While dairy farming George was also a master sheetmetal craftsman and in the 1960's was co-founder of Chehalis Sheet Metal, which was later sold. George worked in the Bremerton naval shipyards during World War II. George is survived by his five children; Eudora (Leonard) Carlson, Judy (Terry) Stratton, Debby (Dan) Swecker, Mark (Luanne) Steelhammer, and Glen (Clela) Steelhammer, all of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Van Doren of Redding, California, and Page (Margaret) Steelhammer of Fords Prairie, Washington. | 276 | George Edward Olmstead, Jr., 76, of Wilton, NH, formerly of North Haven, died Monday (June 8, 1998) in Wilton after being stricken at home. He was the husband of the late Elvira Hanghoj Olmstead. Mr. Olmstead was born in Stamford, Nov. 25, 1921, son of the late George and Jessie Chavelle Olmstead. He lived in Wilton for over a year, moving from North Haven, where he lived for 20 years. He worked for over 50 years at G&O Manufacturing in New Haven, now part of the Allen Group. He was general foreman at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Pilgrim's Harbor Golf Course in Wallingford, and was the Club Open Champion in 1996. He leaves daughters, Elizabeth Valvo of Bristol, Alison Kaladish of Wilton, NH, Heidi W. Olmstead of Mancheste r; a sister, Louise Olmstead of Wethersfield; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lauren Willette. On March 13, 1971 he was united in marriage to M. Susan Eder in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1973 Jerry and Susan moved back to rural Orient to farm. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Creston. He enjoyed antique farm equipment, fishing and hunting, spending time tinkering in the shop and spending time with his kids and grandkids. She was born on March 29, 1914 in Denmark, daughter of Jens and Marie (Sorensen) Christensen. She attended Scottville High School and graduated in 1933. Gerda married Harry D. Schaap in November of 1933 and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ludington. Gerda is survived by her son, Arnold Schaap of Grand Rapids; step-sons, Richard (Charlotte) Schaap of Havana, FL, Rodger E. Schaap of Ruby Creek, MI, Russell (Grace) Schaap of Blythe, CA and eight step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry in January 1991, three brothers, Arne Christensen, Gunner Christensen, Raymond Christensen and her sister, Bertha Madisen. Funeral Services for Gerda will be held on Saturday, September 15th at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 3060 W. | 280 | Gordon Thompson Caldwell, 80, of Stage Road passed from our world on Saturday, (October 27, 2007) at his beloved farm. He was born in Bridgeport on January 6, 1927 to Richard and Caroline Sarah Caldwell. He was raised in West Avon. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1944 and the newly established United States Air Force in 1948. He was a veteran of three wars, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He flew as a pilot of B29s in the Korean War and was a squadron commander of cargo aircraft in the Vietnam War. His tours of duty led him and his family to many locations throughout the world where he was active in those churches and communities. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 as a Lt. Colonel. He and his family lived in South Hadley, MA and moved to Cummington, MA in 1983 where he raised Highland Cattle. His great love was his wife and family. He, in turn, was well loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Karen; his children, Carol Caldwell Kelley of Shutesbury, MA, Gordon Thompson Caldwell, Jr. of Yarmouth, ME, James Michael Caldwell of West Gardiner, ME, Richard Douglas Caldwell of Rutland, VT; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Following school Grover served his country as an Army Air Corpsman. He received the American Theater Ribbon, A P T Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon. Grover married Katherine J. Thompson on July 3, 1939 at Stockville, NE; to this union three children were born: Arthur, Larry and Georgia. Grover worked as a Farmer / Aircraft Electrician. Grover made their home in Kinsley, Kansas for the past 28 years. Survivors are: son, Arthur C. Cole of Owassa, OK.; son, Larry K. Cole of Spearville, KS.; daughter, Georgia Howe of Prospect, KY.; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. | 286 | Harold Jorgensen Nov 5, 1917-Nov 16, 2012 Harold Jorgensen, 95, of Curtis, passed away Nov. 16, 2012, at Linden Court in North Platte.Harold was born on Nov. 5, 1917, in Curtis, to Jorgen Peter and Anna (Jepsen) Jorgensen. Harold attended school in Curtis graduating from UNSA High School in 1936. Following high school Harold entered the U.S. Army, attending Officers Training School and then served his country from 1941-45 in WWII, earning a purple heart after he was wounded in combat. Following his service to his country as a 2nd Lieutenant he returned to the Curtis area where he farmed and ranched. Harold married Margaret Johnson on Aug. 1, 1942, at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.His family was the joy of his life, which was demonstrated through his deep and unconditional love. He was a loyal neighbor and friend. He looked at his farm and cattle as pleasure rather than work. He regularly took enjoyable drives through pastures and fields with family and neighborhood friends. He was an active member of the American Legion, Nebraska Beef Council, National Cattleman's Association, the Toastmasters Association and Lions club. He served on several boards including Curtis Co-op, Farm Bureau, Board of Education, the Board of Elections and the Curtis Telephone Co. Harold was also active in the young farmer veterans organization and 4-H, where he served as the leader for many years. He is survived by his son, Richard (Sharon) Jorgensen, of Curtis; his daughters, Ann Jeanette (Jim) Deidel, of North Platte, Gwen Nickerson, of Curtis, and Diane Walsh, of Cozad; grandsons, Mark (Lanis) Jorgensen, Matt (Trisha) Jorgensen, Steve Strawn, John (Susan) Robinson, Jeff (Kathy) Robinson, Darren (Jennifer) Robinson, Tim (Danelle) Nickerson, Ryan Walsh; and granddaughters, Lori (Mike) Mortensen, Amy (Brandon) Jahnke, Mary (Shawn) Overton, Angela (Cory) Nida, Stacie (Kevin) Owens; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Loren (Lorraine), of North Platte; his sister, Erma Taylor, of Casper, Wyo.; and a host of other family and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents; his brother, Vern Jorgensen; grandson, Steven Jorgensen; and son-in-law, Joe Nickerson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Rev. | 287 | Harriet M. Klotz, 63, of 602 N. Franklin, Ludington, died unexpectedly Dec. 24 at Memorial Medical Center. Harriet was born to Clarence and Bertha (Christensen) Madsen June 5, 1939 in Scottville. She attended school in Ludington, graduating with the class of 1957. She was married on Sept. 13, 1958 in Ludington to Charles W. Klotz and he survives. Harriet retired from Nordlund and Associates in 2001 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed landscaping, gardening, traveling and taking care of her pets. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Charles W. (and Kenda) Klotz of Jenison and Thomas (and Darlene) Klotz of Hudonsville; three daughters, Dawn M. McHale of New York City, Jennifer H. Klotz of Grand Rapids and Shelly M. (and Douglas) Havera of Kalamazoo; and five grandchildren, Charles (Chad) Klotz, Katelyn A. Klotz, Emily M. Klotz, Allison M. Havera and Melanie A. Havera. Also surviving is a brother, Raymond C. Madsen of Riverton, Conn.; one aunt, Gerda Schaap of Ludington, and many cousins. Funeral services for Harriet M. Klotz will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. B. Douglas Niemi officiating. The family will receive friends at the Dorrell Funeral Home this evening from 6-8 and on Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service. She graduated from the Miles High School with the Class of 1944. Helen was a homemaker on the family farm. She enjoyed sewing, gardening flowers and vegetables, canning, baking, crafting, and raising chickens. Helen was a proud member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau and the Great River Threshers. | 295 | Holly Louise Bock Rossen, the second child of Berta Mae Bock Burda and Charles D. Bock, was born December 24, 1967 in Beloit, Kansas. She departed her life Monday, April 29, 2013 at the age of 45 years. Holly spent her adolescent years in Cawker City, graduating from Waconda East High School. She went on to college at Ft. Hays State University, majoring towards nursing. Two years later, she went to Boise, Idaho. She now holds an associate?s degree as an optician. Skye, as Holly was called by many, managed several opticals in Dallas where she met again and married a high school classmate, Jeff Neifert. To this union, one daughter, Fhallon Nicole was born. This union ended and she later married Craig Rhew. To this union, two daughters were born, Gabriella Mae and Charlie Rose Rhew. In November, 2012, she married Matt Rossen of Hastings, NE. Skye gained two step sons, Derek and Jake Rossen. Skye worked side by side with her husband Matt in their rental properties, and their two homes. She was a great interior designer. Holly?s passions were her family, first of all her three daughters, which she lived for. She had a passion for coaching cheerleaders, and choreographing for the drill teams, one of which was her daughter, Fhallon?s. She loved being with her family at the lake and watching her step son Jake run track. While in Texas, Holly was a stunt coach for the Plano Football League. Holly was the head coach for the Lakeside Jr. High School cheerleading team. She was a devoted daughter, sister, and mother. And though she may be gone, she will never be forgotten by her family and friends. Holly is survived by her husband Matt of the home; her daughters, Fhallon Nicole, Gabriella Mae, and Charlie Rose; mother, Berta Burda and ?Daddy Bob?, as she called him; father, Charles Bock and step-mother, Roberta Bock; sisters Stacy Norcross and husband Bob, Melodie Bock, Melinda Tedford and husband Quentin, Shannon Hempler and husband Mitch; brothers Charles Bock, Chris Burda and wife Mandy, Martin Bock and wife Denise, and Matthew Bock; as well as many dear cousins, nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends. Burgwald retired Oct. 30 from the United States Postal Service with 27 years of service. Homewood residents knew him since 1998 as the front counter clerk who believed in customer service. Burgwald has weighed, stamped and sorted mail. After 9/11, he´d be required to ask customer after customer: "Does this contain anything fragile, liquid or potentially hazardous?" He?d give you information on the best way to ship a package, the quickest way to guarantee delivery of a letter and share the details on insuring that special gift to grandma. It may have become routine, but Burgwald said he never got bored with his job. There were customers he called his "regulars" who would come in every week or so. He developed what he called a "je ne sais quoi" or a special rapport, with many of them. ?It?s you guys that I work for. I didn?t work for the post office. I worked for the customers,? he said as friends and long-time customers helped him celebrate his retirement at a party on Sunday. ?I?d be in line watching Bob work, and it?d be a busy season and they?re under the gun. I stood among those people grumbling and no matter what happened he was a nice guy all the way through it,? said Harold Keene. ?No matter how nasty people were, Bob would just work his way through it.? Burgwald says he knows people hate waiting in line, but ?there was nothing else I could do. Believe me, it was frustrating.? Always interested in giving the best customer service, Burgwald said things changed as Congress continued to cut the budget for the postal service. ?Standing eight hours a day didn?t really bother me,? he said. ?The thing that really changed the parameter for me was when people would leave and not be replaced. We were just trying to do the same amount of work with fewer people. There were just areas that weren?t being handled like before. ?If the telephone rang, there was no one to answer it, and I wasn?t going to go away from a customer in front of me to deal with a phone behind me. I wouldn?t do it. There seemed to be something of a disconnect from what the post office thought they wanted and what I was able to provide,? he said. When he started in Homewood, there were three counter clerks working full time. Now on a typical day just two stations are manned. Burgwald isn?t sure if his position will be filled. The Flossmoor resident said he?d worked in retail for many years, and had been unemployed for a string of months. He took the test for a postal job at the urging of his brother, Burt, who was a letter carrier for 35 years. ?It looked to me from the outside that he was actually having fun, and he was,? Burgwald said thinking of stories his late brother told about interesting people along his route. Burgwald?s daily routine is changing, but some things on his schedule will continue.
